What happens if our coach is out of town/busy/can't make our game?
Any coach cleared to coach in the SFYS Upper House, Varsity, or Recreational divisions can coach any team in any SFYS division.
If you are a cleared coach, you can coach your friend's team, another school team, the game after yours because they have no coach, or 10 games in a row if you really wanted to!
The only requirements:
1. Complete all safety & background check requirements (click here for a checklist)
2. Have the team add you to their roster at least a week before the game so SFYS can verify completion of the requirements; OR, if you're already on the roster for another SFYS team, just bring your own team's printed game day roster so you have something to show the referee during check in.
So that is who can coach, but what about finding someone?
Who is your opponent on the weekend? They might have two or three licensed coaches. With each team only allowed to have two coaches in the technical area, they might have a 'spare' to coach your team.
Your school might also have several teams and licensed coaches. SFYS can connect you with those coaches to see if any of them can be a guest coach (introducing the school soccer masterplan...).
Moving forward...
There are rules for anyone to coach, but anyone can once they have completed the compliance items. Your team 'could' recruit a parent or two to complete the coaching requirements and be available for your team.
