Soooo many players drop out in middle and high school because in most cities and towns, the only way to continue playing is on a highly competitive "travel" team. For players who just want to play for fun, or competitively but locally - there were no options ... until now!
The SFYS Varsity League debuted in Spring of 2021, for those players that want to still play organized league soccer without the commitment required to join a travel team.
Keep fit and connected with SFYS Varsity before (and after) your high school winter season!
The league replaces our historical open pick up and is organized as:
- 8v8 format, for continued rosters from Rec, and eased roster stress on UH/Travel.
- Expanded roster: up to 18 players! to accommodate jobs, after school activities and other commitments that might otherwise impact one's ability to play on a proper team
- Boys and Girls divisions.
- Scheduled League Play.
- Low Cost: $150 registration includes 1-2 practices and games on the weekend.
This league is exclusively for High School age players only.
Exclusivity means teams can consist of players from 9-12th grade only
- No Guesting up from Rec or Upper House (too big an age gap)
- Teams can be mixed high school ages, or one grade of friends!

I coach a team of current 8th graders. Some are interested in playing in HS, but the players have a WIDE range of skill levels. My team stayed together through the toughest parts of the pandemic, and many of them play just to be with their friends. We lose the majority of our games in our current bracket, because 1) I'm a volunteer coach and 2) the boys are not disciplined. I want them to keep playing because they love soccer. What is the Varsity landscape like for a team coming from the Recreational division?
